Dental plaque is a soft whitish layer deposit which sticks to the teeth and lies on their
surface. That explains its name.
It is composed of alimentation scraps less or more solved, proteins, sugars, and most
of all, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria secreting acid metabolic residues.
These acids make enamel demineralization. It cause later, by lack of washing teeth, a
primary cavity or toothdecay.
There is an easy way to be sure of that.
Take a piece of chalk (chemical structure alike enamel : calcium carbonate)
Pour onto vinegar (acetic acid)
The chalk became soft.
When the cavity is done the washing with toothbrush is ineffective and toothdecay spreads
to the dentine. The progression inside the dentine is much faster than in enamel and
Some cells of the dentine try to slow down the progression of the toothdecay secreting a
brown reactionnal dentine but sooner or later a dentist is required.
The best way is not waiting and it will avoid more difficult and more expensive cares.
Both toothdecay and dental plaque cause gum inflammation , gum is red, swelled, painful.
This is gingivitis
Dental plaque precipitates (chemical reaction) and gives tartar. Ginvitis is increased
and gum bleeds easily.
Bad dental positions are a risk of toothdecay because an effective washing by toothbrush is
